How to Get Alcohol Outpatient Help for Yourself or Family

Alcohol-Outpatient-Treatment-Recovery-Center-SignSooner or later, consistent alcohol misuse destroys jobs, relationships, quality of life, and perhaps even life itself. Moreover, AUD (Alcohol Use Disorder) may be passed on to children. Many times, as in other areas of life, early intervention is the key to healing. Along with support from friends and family, an alcohol addiction treatment program may be a big part of that process.

There is no right or wrong way to recover from alcohol addiction. So, at Amethyst Recovery, our alcohol outpatient detox protocols are as diverse as the families we serve. However, they all have the same overall goals. Our addiction center gives you the tools you need to recover, and you don’t need to step away from your everyday responsibilities.

Available Alcohol Outpatient Programs

Many addicts are in the early stages of AUD, have a commitment to quit, and have jobs or families to protect. If all three of these elements are present, alcohol outpatient rehab usually works. Based largely on your initial evaluation, the outpatient treatment program can follow several different pathways.

How Does an Alcohol Outpatient Clinic Help Me?

Addiction treatment at Amethyst Recovery always includes professional counseling. Our specially-trained counselors know the right questions to ask. Furthermore, many of them are recovering addicts themselves. That experience gives them special insight into the problems that you and your family face.

In most cases, therapy sessions at outpatient treatment centers are incredibly beneficial. These meetings may or may not follow the traditional 12-step approach to recovery. It all depends on individual needs.

Triggers & Stress

There is another component of these outpatient alcohol recovery programs as well. Many people drink due to certain triggers, such as stress. Our addiction center therapists show patients alternative means to deal with these issues.

Outpatient alcohol classes are important as well. We believe in a balanced approach which includes an emphasis on:

  • The science of drug and alcohol dependency,
  • New ways of thinking that help you deal with your addictions,
  • Preparing to deal with relapse pressures,
  • Laying out a sober lifestyle, and
  • Educating friends and family about addiction.

Evening classes which work with your schedule are usually available. We also offer weekend emphasis sessions at our treatment center.

What About Outpatient Alcohol Withdrawal Management?

Of course, addiction is not just an emotional or intellectual problem. There is a physical component as well.

Typically, these physical symptoms are not as serious in early-stage AUD patients. Nevertheless, a good outpatient alcohol abuse program must address medical issues. Fortunately, effective treatment is not limited to inpatient rehab programs.

Alcohol withdrawal symptoms usually begin within six to twenty-four hours. If left untreated, these issues can compromise the rest of the drug and alcohol outpatient program. Quite simply, it’s impossible to focus on getting better when your body vociferously demands more alcohol.

If the patient has mild symptoms and no history of seizures or other such medical issues, withdrawal is relatively easy to manage in an outpatient setting. But in some cases, slightly more advanced alcohol withdrawal therapy from medical professionals is required.

What is Intensive Outpatient Alcohol Treatment?

Alcohol-Outpatient-Rehabilitation-Clinic-SignLevel of care is often an issue in these substance abuse settings. Not everyone fits neatly into “outpatient” and “inpatient” alcohol rehab categories.

Sometimes, IOP (Intensive Outpatient Programs) involves a combination of medical and non-medical interventions. More often, however, IOP addiction treatment programs are just that. They are simply more intensive drug and alcohol outpatient programs. For example, many patients benefit from one-on-one therapy sessions that supplement group sessions.

What to Expect in Alcohol Outpatient Programs

There is no single cause of substance abuse issues, so there is no single treatment for it either. But in general, outpatient alcohol recovery patients may expect the following:

  • A Probative Assessment: Many times, the alcohol outpatient center’s intake process may seem intrusive. But this is a necessary part of the process. Without such effort, even the best alcohol outpatient service is likely to fail.
  • New Ideas: People sign up for outpatient alcohol abuse treatment programs because their current way of living is not working. New ways of thinking are always scary. But embracing them is one of the best ways to ensure that outpatient alcohol rehab works.
  • An Open Exchange: Many people are uncomfortable sharing their thoughts and feelings with strangers. Rest assured that most of the other people in the group feel the same way. And, after a few sessions, the process becomes almost second nature. Besides, without such an exchange, the alcohol outpatient therapy may be unable to get to the root of your problems.
  • Boundaries: For many recovering addicts, this is the b-word. Because there is less supervision, most outpatient alcohol rehabilitation services have many rules. These rules are not designed to make people fail. Instead, they are carefully designed to help people succeed.

The daily schedule also varies significantly. Typically, most individuals spend about six or eight hours a week in outpatient therapy.

Inpatient vs. Outpatient Alcohol Recovery

In a nutshell, outpatient treatment is for mild to moderate Alcohol Use Disorder cases and inpatient treatment is for moderate to severe situations. But there is obviously some overlap here. Furthermore, the inquiry goes much deeper.

When is Inpatient Alcohol Detox a Good Idea?

If alcohol misuse is a physical danger to you or someone else, inpatient rehab is almost always appropriate. The same thing applies if there are other warning signs (e.g. the patient lives with an in-denial addict).

However, inpatient treatment is much more costly than outpatient treatment. Perhaps more importantly, the transition back to everyday life is incredibly harsh.

What is Outpatient Alcohol Treatment Like?

There is no harsh transition after outpatient alcoholism addiction treatment programs, and the health condition protocols are usually less expensive. But there is more to the equation than cost. Other than meeting program requirements, outpatient drug rehab patients have almost unlimited freedom. In fact, even close friends and family members may not even know that you are in rehab. They just see the results.

After Alcohol Detox Ends

Alcohol-Outpatient-Treatment-Rehabilitation-RecoveryMost people are familiar with the grim relapse statistics. As many as 80 percent of recovering addicts do not stay sober. But this number does not tell the whole story. There is a difference between a random lapse and a complete breakdown. Furthermore, with every sober month, that 80 percent number drops significantly.

Amethyst Recovery’s strong alumni program is one thing that sets our outpatient alcohol rehab program apart from the rest. Recovering addicts can easily connect with people in their neighborhood who have gone through the exact same thing.

Additionally, our outpatient rehab program does not end when patients walk out the door. We continue to offer educational classes, therapy sessions, and other program elements to addicts in varying stages of recovery.

Finally, we do not blame you for relapse. Usually, these instances are no one’s fault. Instead of pointing fingers, we try to help you get better. This process often involves a reflective assessment on both sides.

If you want to rid yourself of AUD and know you need drug rehab help, let us give you the assistance you need in an outpatient or another setting.
