So what does it mean to enable an addict? An enabler is someone who, in the case of an addict, does for the addict what the addict can and should be doing for himself/herself, and in the process prevents the addict from suffering the consequences of his (or her) own behavior.
We all want the very best treatment for our addicted children, and many of us are willing to pay any amount of money to “fix” the problem. But a high price is no guarantee of the best services or most qualified rehab personnel.
It can take time to start working toward realistic goals, but it is possible to improve personal well-being and start seeing positive changes when you or a loved one decides to work toward recovery.
