We all need that extra boost sometimes on our bad days. Recovering from addiction is a great accomplishment, but it is not always easy. There are going to be days when relapse feels impossible to avoid and you’ll need to find a distraction from these feelings.

It is both fun and helpful to find different hobbies that can be used to relieve anxiety and shame on your bad days. We wanted to give you some of Amethyst’s favorite books to read during recovery. Hopefully, these will bring you peace and entertainment as you adjust to life being clean and sober.

When Things Fall Apart- Pema Chödrön

 In this casual, but informative book, author Pema Chödrön teaches the reader about mindfulness. Through the use of the most fundamental Buddhist beliefs and positive messages, she is able to suggest ways to change negative thoughts into positive feelings.

Practicing Mindfulness- Matthew Sockolov

You can’t go wrong with a simple book that tells you how to feel more at peace with your thoughts. In his book, Practicing Mindfulness, Matthew Sockolov gives the reader step by step ways to relax the mind, bring the thoughts to peace and reduce stress. This is a great read for people looking for new coping skills that avoid relapse.
